As October comes to an end, it’s time to dive into some fall festivities! Campus Recreation has got you covered with a ton of fun things to do in the greater Philadelphia area to help you get into the holiday spirit.
If you’re anything like me, you cherish this special time of year. The leaves on the trees begin to change into an array of reds, oranges, and yellows, and the air becomes cooler- it’s finally hoodie season! This lovely season of Autumn only comes once a year, and as this spooky season comes to an end, I wanted to suggest some awesome things to do in and around the city before we must wait another year for Fall Festivities. There are plenty of haunted attractions, local vendors, and farmers markets to visit this Fall!
If you’re one for wholesome fall fun, check out Peddler’s Village! Located in New Hope, PA, this place is completely free to enter and wander about. Go for a walk and enjoy the fall foliage, enjoy an outdoor movie night, check out a local shop and buy clothes, wine, and other goodies, or check out their current display of over 100 life sized scarecrows! Peddler’s Village really has it all. Another place I love during the Fall season is Shady Brook Farm, located in Yardley, PA! For adults, they have an outdoor bar set up equipped with fire pits, s'mores kits, and local brews. For the kids (and the young at heart) they have apple picking, a pumpkin patch, and a new drive
through Halloween light show experience!
If spooks are something you’re seeking, you’re in luck! Philadelphia is home to one of the most haunted places in the United States. The Eastern State Penitentiary, formerly the home of gangster Al Capone, a prison active over 200 years ago, is open for daytime tours, as well as over 15 haunted attractions for Halloween! Located in the heart of Fairmount, there is a lot of history behind the walls of this prison. I’ve checked out this prison myself both in the daytime for the tour and for their Halloween season, and let me tell you, either way, it’s SCARY! Check out their website, https://www.easternstate.org/halloween/preview/the-attractions for more information about their haunted attractions!
