Biography
Jingwei Wu is an associate professor and primary research faculty of the Biostatistics Core Center in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Temple University College of Public Health. He is also an affiliate faculty member of Temple University’s Center for Obesity Research and Education (CORE). He teaches both introductory and advanced biostatistics core courses for graduate students and serves as faculty mentor and thesis committee member for many MS and PhD students. He is a selected teaching fellow of the Provost’s Teaching Academy at Temple University and is a three-time awardee of the Textbook Affordability Project. He is also the recipient of the 2023 Emerging SAS Educator Award.
Dr. Wu’s research interest and expertise is to develop novel statistical and computational methods to address a broad spectrum of biomedical problems. His statistical research is focusing on medical indices development, semiparametric regression, longitudinal and survival data analysis, statistical computation, and statistical issues in novel clinical trial designs.
As a member of the biostatistics faculty, Dr. Wu has collaborated with and provided extensive consulting services to researchers at the school, university and other institutions in areas such as study design, sample size calculation, power evaluation and statistical methods. At the same time, he served as co-investigator and biostatistician on multiple federal grants and research projects. He has independently contributed to the preparation and submission of more than 30 extramural grant applications in multidisciplinary research stratum, including epidemiology, environmental health, social behavior science, health and rehabilitation sciences, communication sciences and disorders, obesity, kinesiology and oncology. He has authored or co-authored more than 130 peer-reviewed scientific articles and more than 90 contributed presentations at national and international conferences. Several publications appeared in high-ranking journals, such as JAMA, Annals of Internal Medicine, and Statistical Methods in Medical Research.
He served on numerous journal editorial boards as well as scientific organization committees for professional organizations. He is the Section Councilor of the American Public Health Statistics (APHS) Section on American Public Health Association (APHA), and is in the Statistical Advisory Panel of the British Journal of Psychiatry (BJPsych).
Before joining Temple, he served as primary biostatistician and statistical consultant at Indiana University School of Medicine since 2001, working on investigations in multiple biomedical areas including hypertension, pain/depression/anxiety, sexually transmitted infections, medication compliance, health-related quality of life outcomes, cancer surveillance and clinical trials. He also served as senior biostatistician in Hoosiers Oncology Group, to evaluate innovative and promising drugs, to develop methods and approaches to cancer treatment through, among other things, clinical research.
Dr. Wu earned his bachelor's degree in applied mathematics from Beijing University of Technology in 1996, master's degree in biostatistics from the University of Michigan in 2000, and PhD in biostatistics from Indiana University in 2015.
