Research
Dr. Hackett seeks to understand how digitalization and AI transform existing businesses and enable the creation of new ones. He is particularly interested in research that examines, explains, and ultimately influences how Japanese and non-Japanese professionals identify, shape, and pursue international business opportunities.

Previous Appointments
Dr. Hackett has held academic appointments at universities in the United States (Vanderbilt University, Drexel University), Japan (Waseda University, Hosei University, Aoyama Gakuin University, Sophia University), and Canada (Simon Fraser University).
Before entering academia, he served as Director of Japan Market Development for the American Electronics Association (now CompTIA), where he led sales and marketing efforts, helped organize committees, and contributed to a program that facilitated international business between American high-tech companies and Japanese enterprise customers.

Dr. Hackett is a member of the Academy of Management, Industry Studies Association, and Transcultural Management Society (TMS - 異文化経営学会). He previously served a three-year term as a Director at TMS (2021-2024).
