Required Courses
Your curriculum will vary depending on whether you select a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science. All students take an introductory course in geology followed by a series of classes that explore concentrations within the discipline. Through core and elective courses you will gain exposure to
- geochemistry,
- groundwater,
- igneous and metamorphic geology,
- paleontology,
- the interpretation of Earth history through the study of sedimentary deposits,
- the study of minerals, and
- the use of computers and remote sensing in geology.
Geology BA
Learning happens through classroom instruction, laboratory and fieldwork, and research opportunities. A sample of the courses you might take include
- Groundwater Hydrology,
- Mineralogy and
- Physical Geology.

Geology BS
Learning happens through classroom instruction, laboratory and fieldwork, and research opportunities. A sample of the courses you might take include
- Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology,
- Paleontology and Stratigraphy, and
- Structural Geology.
Students complement geology courses with classes in chemistry, mathematics and physics. Opportunities for independent study and research are also available. The capstone experiences includes a five- to six-week summer course, in which students gain training in geological field methods.
