How to Apply

Apply using our graduate application portal.

Fee: $60 (Fee waivers are available for those who qualify.)

All graduate programs require a completed application form, a statement of goals, and one certified copy of official transcripts from every college and university attended, including Temple University. A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is ordinarily required for admissions consideration. However, requirements for some programs may vary.

Supporting Materials

Once you’ve submitted your application for admission, you will be able to upload supporting materials through your account by clicking “submit required items.”

While it is preferred that you submit documents electronically, you may also mail your supporting materials to the address below. Be sure to include your name and TUid on all documents that you mail to Temple to expedite the processing of your materials. You will receive your TUid via email once you have submitted your application for admission.

Standardized Test Scores

The GRE is optional. Scores submitted are preferred to be at least 60% verbal and at least 25% quantitative. A writing score of at least 3.5 is recommended. If you elect not to submit GRE scores, a writing sample is required.

International Test Scores

Applicants who earned their baccalaureate degree from an institution where the language of instruction was other than English, with the exception of those who subsequently earned a master’s degree at a U.S. institution, must report scores for a standardized test of English that meet the following minimums.

TOEFL iBT: 100
IELTS Academic: 7.0
PTE Academic: 68

Statement of Goals

Your statement of goals will be used to determine how you will benefit from our program and what you will contribute to our learning community. In approximately 1,000 words, integrate your responses to the following prompts into a coherent essay.

How will the Master of Arts in Media Studies and Production advance your career and research goals, and your intellectual objectives?
Describe the interests, experiences, and academic and research achievements that you will bring to this program.

Please also review the descriptions of our program, curriculum and faculty, and incorporate that information into your statement.

Writing Sample/Production Portfolio

If you elect not to submit GRE scores, you are required to submit one of the options below so that your readiness and ability or potential to engage rigorously with graduate-level work can be assessed.

A formal academic paper from your undergraduate work that represents your best academic writing. Please include a cover sheet in which you indicate the following.
- Your name
- The institution where you took the course for which the paper was produced
- The course number and title of the course for which the paper was written
- The professor for whom you wrote the paper
- The term in which you took the course
Writing samples that you produced in a professional capacity, such as published news articles or press releases. Please include a cover sheet indicating in what publication and on what date the material was published.
A production portfolio that includes professionally or academically produced audio, video or web material. Please submit an academic essay that explains how theory and research inform the production portfolio, indicating your role in the production, where the material was produced and the date.

Applications are processed through the deadline.

Application Status

Track your application status on your account to determine its progress and whether or not supporting materials are still needed. You will be notified via email once your application is complete. Our Admissions Office will also be in touch throughout the process with updates regarding your application status. Please be sure to check your email for messages from kleingraduate@temple.edu.
