The Orthodontics graduate program accepts six applicants per academic year. Applicants should have a DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school, according to the standards of the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), and have completed the National Board Dental Examination.

Preference is given to applicants with demonstrated experience in clinical care, research or service. 

How To Apply

  1. Apply through the American Dental Education Association Postdoctoral Application Support Service (ADEA PASS). You should confirm with PASS that your application has been received, as the organization only forwards completed records to Temple for processing. Review PASS application instructions for our program. PASS deadline: Sept. 1 of the year preceding the expected date of enrollment.

  2. In addition to the PASS application, we require the supplemental materials listed below to be uploaded in PASS (Please follow instructions listed in PASS).  

  3. A separate Temple University application and fee of $75 are required when applying to the Orthodontics Graduate Certificate program. Please see detail below.

  4. Register with the National Matching Service (MATCH) Postdoctoral Dental Matching Program, which pairs applicants with postdoctoral dental education programs. Applicants who are accepted into the Orthodontics graduate program will be rank ordered and their names will be submitted to MATCH. You will be notified of your match with a program on the date chosen by the National Matching Service.

Supporting Materials

All supporting materials will be uploaded into PASS.

In addition, our program requires a supplementary application emailed to orthodontics@temple.edu. The email should include the following.

  • A letter explaining your interest in the Department of Orthodontics at Temple University (this is separate from your Personal Statement in PASS)
  • CV that includes your GPA for dental school and undergraduate studies
  • GRE scores
  • National Board scores when taken 
  • TOEFL scores for all international applicants whose native language is not English (the minimum score for TOEFL is 100)

These supplementary documents are required and separate from your PASS application.

Admission Deadlines

The deadline for completed applications is Sept. 1 of the year preceding the expected date of enrollment.
