The Performance DMA focuses on developing scholarship, teaching ability and performance technique. In addition to a series of recitals and a written monograph, coursework covers a variety of topics and areas of focus depending on the specific concentration.
Students with a concentration in Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass or Harp may take
- Doctoral Chamber Music,
- Technical and Interpretive Seminar - Strings, and
- Seminar for String Literature.
Students with a concentration in Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium or Tuba may take
- Doctoral Chamber Music,
- Single Reed Woodwind Pedagogy and
- Advanced Conducting - Doctoral.
Students with a concentration in Percussion may take
- Performance Traditions,
- Doctoral Performance Practice and
- Advanced Conducting - Doctoral.
Students with a concentration in Piano or Historical Keyboard may take
- Keyboard Literature - Doctoral,
- Doctoral Seminar Analysis, Interpretation and Performance, and
- Seminar in Early Keyboard Instruments.
Students with a concentration in Harpsichord may take
- Harpsichord,
- Instrumental Ensembles and a recommended course in
- Classical Keyboard Performance.
Students with a concentration in Voice may take
- Voice Pedagogy,
- Vocal Literature and
- Special Topics in Voice.
