Research Facilities

Temple’s urban setting in the nation’s fourth largest media market makes the Lew Klein College of Media and Communication an ideal center for cutting-edge research and creative work. Academic and artistic exchanges occur across disciplines here, and our talented professors and inquisitive students explore the role of communication in public life.

You’ll be able to work alone, with other students and with faculty on numerous scholarly and creative projects, conducting research, presenting at conferences and submitting to journals. Travel and research funding is available to help support your work.

The Media Studies and Production Major faculty are dedicated to your progress as a scholar, offering suggestions and discussing your intellectual and research interests and goals to help you succeed. Sherri Hope Culver

Associate Professor of Instruction

Sherri Hope Culver is the director of the Center for Media and Information Literacy, which is recognized by the United Nations. In 2019, she was elected vice chair of the international steering committee for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organizations’ Global Alliance on Partnerships for Media and Information Literacy. Culver also hosts the podcast Kids Talk Media and the TV series Media Inside Out.

Clemencia Rodríguez

Professor

Author and Klein Professor Clemencia Rodríguez has been passionate about researching citizen, international and alternative media since she was a 24-year-old student in her home country of Colombia. She shares her knowledge and experience with her students at Temple, readers of her multiple books and the city of Philadelphia as a board member of the Independence Public Media Foundation.

Barry Vacker

Associate Professor

Author and Klein Professor Barry Vacker writes and teaches in the areas of the intersection of art, film, media, philosophy, science and technology. His recent published works include the third edition of Media Environments and Black Mirror and Critical Media Theory. Vacker is also one of the minds behind Klein GO’s Arcosanti spring break program, where students discover sustainable living solutions and explore the unique architecture and ecology of Arcosanti, Arizona.
