Why study medicine at Katz?

The Katz School of Medicine provides students with

an education that is patient-centered, instilling in learners the school's ethic of human service and lifelong learning;
research opportunities that advance and integrate basic and clinical science; and
patient care that is administered with compassion and understanding, utilizing contemporary knowledge and techniques.

Graduates of the MD program typically continue their training in ACGME accredited residencies in all disciplines of medicine throughout the United States. Following residency, graduates enter careers in academic medicine, private practice, research, and industry.

The Katz School of Medicine confers the Doctor of Medicine degree and offers the following dual degree/certificate programs: MD/PhD, MD/MA in Urban Bioethics, MD/MBA and MD/Certificate in Narrative Medicine.

Our Campuses

The Katz School of Medicine offers MD degree training at two locations.

The Medical Education and Research Building (MERB), located at the North Philadelphia campus of Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
St. Luke's University Health Network Regional Campus in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

North Philadelphia Campus

The North Philadelphia campus is part of Temple University’s vibrant Health Sciences Center, which includes Temple’s School of Pharmacy and School of Dentistry. For medical students, home base is MERB, a spectacular 11-story, 480,000 square-foot structure featuring state-of-the-art facilities for education, research, and student life, including open research spaces, smart classrooms and a state-of-the-art 12,000-square-foot clinical skills and robotic simulation center.

Directly across the street from MERB is Temple University Hospital—a world-class tertiary/quaternary hospital that serves as Pennsylvania’s leading safety-net provider for underserved populations and as a primary clinical learning site for medical students, residents and fellows in 45 graduate medical education programs. Medical students also have the opportunity to rotate at other Temple Health hospitals, at the St. Luke’s regional campus and at our other clinical affiliate sites. The North Philadelphia campus is located just a few miles away from the city’s downtown area, which bustles year-round with arts, sciences, entertainment and culture.

St. Luke’s Regional Campus

Located in beautiful, historic downtown Bethlehem, the St. Luke’s Regional Campus offers all the benefits of a large academic medical center with a hometown, community-focused feel. Featuring a class size of 40, students benefit from outstanding mentorship and diverse clinical experiences. The medical education building is located directly across the street from the hospital. St. Luke’s University Health Network is a 14-hospital health system that serves 11 counties in central Pennsylvania and western New Jersey. With a Level I Trauma Center and a robust graduate medical education program, our students are well-prepared for residency and life beyond the classroom. St. Luke’s campus students can also rotate at Temple Health hospitals for clinical learning experiences in the final phase of the MD program.

Global Medicine Program

This comprehensive, hands-on enrichment program provides students with global clinical and research opportunities, which can be life changing and career inspiring. Experiences include care that spans preventative healthcare, emergency care and international service, ensuring that program participants fulfill their personal and professional goals.

Community Engagement

The Katz School of Medicine  encourages and supports broad service involvement through more than 50 student-run groups, including the Student Government Association.

Financial Aid

Managing student indebtedness is important to the Katz School of Medicine. A dedicated financial aid coordinator provides information to applicants on interview day and works closely with students the summer before matriculation. A thorough, structured program of financial counseling and debt management continues throughout a student’s time at Temple.

To be considered for all possible funding, applicants are strongly encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1. The FAFSA code for Temple University is 003371.
